CHAIRMAN’S REPORT – MARCH 2026
Dear Members,
Good day to you all.
I would like to bring you up to date on latest news and developments in our Society.
Firstly – and sadly – I report the passing of member Ross Wood – our condolences go out to his wife Judy Vane-Wood & family.
Ross & Judy ran the Bathurst & Maitland Arms Fair. Certainly, a great loss also to so many people who knew him – a man very well-liked and respected. Sincere condolences from our Society.
1. Bathurst Arms Fair
A special thanks to Jeff Marr, Ricky De Losa, Harvey Facer, Roger Thornback, and Bob & Joan O’Keefe who manned the society’s display tables tirelessly the 2 days.
The displays were excellent and we had plenty of enquiries about membership.
As usual this fair was well attended by so many, was enjoyable for all and a wonderful success.
2. Roger Thornback has taken on the task of Chapter Director and is communicating and assisting Chapters not only with their needs but bringing our chapters closer to us.
Thanks Roger – an important role in the society.
3. We have introduced a new application form for membership, which now requires a secondary member to recommend them, as well as more questions on the form.

There is an increase in fees, with a new member processing fee of $50, and the annual fee has increased to $80 (pension rate to $60). Please visit the website to view.
4. New Legislation matters – Roger Thornback and I had a meeting with Bill Newcomen who is on the Firearms Consultative Committee, and a member of our Society.
He stated that can be reported, that new draft regulations for firearms are expected May 2026 at the earliest, and implementation will be September at the earliest.
(he felt that both dates could be optimistic).
A stake holder update report is expected from the commissioner very soon.
We patiently awaiting further updates & information on these issues.
Don’t forget our next March Sydney meeting is on Tuesday, 31st March at Concord Community Club.
